Suno has launched Studio 2.0, a significant expansion of its AI music platform that shifts the product from a simple generative audio tool toward a functional digital audio workstation (DAW). The update addresses the most requested feature in the community: MIDI support. While Suno does not yet support third-party VSTs or external plugins, the inclusion of MIDI data allows users to interact with the AI in a more traditional compositional workflow. Users can input chords or melodies via MIDI and prompt the system to extend the arrangement, write a B-part, or convert the data into audio, bridging the gap between manual input and generative output.
A central new component is a chatbot integrated directly into the Studio interface. Unlike isolated text-to-audio models, this assistant is tied to the current session, meaning it understands the musical context of the project. This allows for specific, context-aware instructions such as improving a vocal track or generating a new guitar line that fits the existing arrangement. The system can also handle mixing tasks, applying reverb, compression, and EQ based on user prompts.
Perhaps the most distinctive feature is the ability to generate custom effects plugins. Users can request unique reverbs, aggressive compression, or chorus effects, which are then saved to their account for reuse. This approach mirrors the concept of AI-driven hardware pedals, allowing for personalized sound design that goes beyond standard preset libraries. Additionally, Studio 2.0 now includes standard DAW features like automation, enabling users to pan or adjust volume across the arrangement. While the platform remains proprietary and lacks third-party plugin compatibility, the combination of MIDI, automation, and AI-driven mixing represents a substantial step toward a complete creative environment.
