Nvidia's Quarterly Revenue Hits Record $96.2B, Data Center Dominates

Nvidia reported record quarterly revenue of $96.2 billion, a jump of over $10 billion from the previous quarter, with its data center business once again the primary growth engine. Data center revenue alone reached a record $89 billion, more than doubling year-over-year, while overall profits more than doubled to $59.7 billion.

The company's "edge computing" category, which includes its consumer gaming business, contributed just $7.2 billion in revenue, a 27 percent increase year-over-year. However, Nvidia noted "slower consumer PC sales that were tempered by elevated memory and systems prices." Component shortages continue to drive up prices for consumer GPUs, and the company has warned of price hikes for its AI chips ahead of Wednesday's earnings report.

Looking ahead, Nvidia predicts it will pull in $108 billion in revenue within just a few months, a figure that would place it among an elite group of companies—Amazon, Apple, and Alphabet—that have repeatedly reached the $100-billion-in-a-quarter milestone.

For developers and technologists, the numbers underscore a few trends: the insatiable demand for AI compute, the widening gap between data center and consumer GPU markets, and persistent supply constraints that could affect hardware availability and pricing in the near term.
